How to invite your clients to Schwab Alliance

Schwab Alliance is a website and mobile platform that provides easy access to account information and is designed exclusively for the clients of advisors who custody with Schwab. The website and mobile app offer practical financial tools and resources that can empower your clients to manage account details on their own, access statements and tax documents, and securely authorize transactions, making it easier for them to work with you and with Schwab.

You can invite clients (either individually or as a group) to join Schwab Alliance by sending an email through Schwab Advisor Center.

To invite clients to Schwab Alliance, you will need the following:

This process may be used to invite a group of clients to Schwab Alliance.

  1. Go to the Accounts section at Schwab Advisor Center, click Profiles, choose the appropriate master account, and select Schwab Alliance & Paperless.
  2. To view clients without access to Schwab Alliance, go to the Web Access drop-down, select No, and click Apply Filters.
  3. Since the Enroll column defaults to the Paperless option, expand the column, and select Alliance.
  4. Select the checkbox next to each account you want to invite to Schwab Alliance. 
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Start Enrollment to send emails to all the selected clients.
  6. On the confirmation screen, review the information. Confirm your clients have a valid email address and, if necessary, update the email addresses by clicking Edit.
  7. If there are any missing email addresses, click Add, enter the email address, and click Update. Your clients will receive an email regarding the email address change.
  8. Click Send Enrollment Emails and your clients will receive an email with instructions on how activate their Schwab Alliance online account. The email will direct your clients to schwaballiance.com to activate their account.
  9. Advise clients they will need their brokerage account number to activate their online account. For security reasons, the link will work for only seven days.

This process may be used to invite an individual client to Schwab Alliance.

  1. Go to the Accounts section at Schwab Advisor Center, click Profiles, choose the appropriate master account, and locate the individual’s account.
  2. In the Account Holders and Contacts section, click Activate under Alliance Web Access. If you do not see this link, the contact is ineligible or they already have a Schwab Alliance login.
  3. From this pop-up, click Send Activation Email to generate an email with a link that will allow clients to sign up immediately.
  4. Advise clients they will need their brokerage account number to activate their online account. For security reasons, the link will work for only seven days.

Once you send the activation email:

  • Your client will receive an email inviting them to activate a Schwab Alliance online account.
  • Once Schwab Alliance activation is complete, clients can set up mobile access by downloading the Schwab Mobile app and use their Schwab Alliance credentials to securely log in.
  • Schwab will send your client standard communications about their Schwab Alliance activation once it’s opened.
  • For security reasons, the embedded link will work for only seven days. If your client needs a new link after this period, resend the invitation email.
  • If you have questions about inviting your clients to Schwab Alliance, call the Schwab Alliance service team at 800-515-2157.

My client would like to learn more about Schwab Alliance before enrolling. What resources can I refer them to?
The Schwab Alliance service team offers web demos for both you and your clients. You can also refer clients to Schwab Learning Center for a brief video highlighting the benefits of signing up for online access.

Are there any other ways my clients can register for the Schwab Alliance website?
If your client requests another enrollment option, refer them to the Schwab Alliance service team at 800-515-2157 to activate their user ID or inform them they can self-enroll at schwaballiance.com by clicking New User.

Who should my client call to report technical issues with the Schwab Alliance website?
For all technical issues, including login and website issues, your client can call the Schwab Alliance service team at 800-515-2157.

Can I view client information through their Schwab Alliance online account?
No. Only authorized account holders can access their accounts in the Schwab Alliance website. Advisors can view client account information through Schwab Advisor Center.
