How to customize Schwab Alliance

Schwab Alliance is a website and mobile platform designed exclusively for the clients of advisors who custody with Schwab. The website and mobile app offer practical financial tools and resources that allow your clients to make simple updates on their own, such as address and beneficiary changes, and allows your clients to digitally approve money movement and account open requests initiated by you.

To help meet both your firm's and clients' needs, Schwab Alliance offers options you can use to brand and tailor your clients’ Schwab Alliance experience—from including your firm's logo to determining the features your clients can view on the site. You can also link to Schwab Alliance from your firm's website.

You can customize your clients' online experience via Schwab Advisor Center® or by submitting paper forms.

All processes
  • Active Schwab Alliance account(s)
  • Your firm name, master account number, phone number, contact name, and email address
  • Information for the client, including master account number(s) or individual account number(s), if applicable

 

In addition to the information above, the following process specific information may be required:

New logos

A completed Logo Request Form

  • Electronic copy of your firm's logo Tooltip , if applicable
  • For third-party logos, Form ADV Tooltip that lists the third-party as a valid doing business as ( DBA Tooltip ) of the firm
Customizing client views

A completed SchwabAlliance.com Custom Views Advisor Enrollment and Preferences form

New links and link updates

A completed Request to Link to SchwabAlliance.com form

  • Disclosure page that is compliant with Schwab's linking guidelines, if applicable
  • Information for the link request, including prototype disclosure page URL, prototype disclosure page login and password, firm website URL, firm's website login and password, and sales or service team contact name and phone number, if applicable

This process may be used display your firm's  logo Tooltip  on Schwab Alliance, client statements, or both.

  1. Select the Logo Request Form from the forms library on Schwab Advisor Center. Click Select, and then select Open PDF.
  2. Complete all necessary fields.
  3. Print the form and obtain signatures from the Chief Compliance Officer* or a principal of the firm. Send the signed form via a Schwab Advisor Center service request.
  4. Submit the logo to Schwab using one of the following applicable procedures:
    • For an electronic logo file, email the file to ASstatementsupport@schwab.com
    • For a printed logo, mail the Logo Request Form with original letterhead or business cards to: 200 S 108th Ave., Omaha, NE 68154
    • For third-party logos, the third-party must be listed as a valid DBA of the firm's Form ADV

*If your firm does not have a chief compliance officer, another officer performing a similar function may sign the form.

This process may be used to customize your clients' Schwab Alliance views.

  1. Before activating a new view for clients, let them know how their Schwab Alliance user experience will change. Ask them to contact you directly, should they want to update their view.
  2. Select SchwabAlliance.com Custom Views Advisor Enrollment and Preferences form from the forms library on Schwab Advisor Center. Click Select, and then select Open PDF.
  3. Complete all necessary fields.
  4. Print the form and obtain signatures from the authorized agent of the firm. Send the signed form(s) to your Schwab service team via a Schwab Advisor Center service request.

This process may be used to customize Schwab Alliance views for all accounts in a master.

  1. Go to the Accounts section at Schwab Advisor Center, click Profiles, and select Schwab Alliance & Paperless to view the Schwab Alliance Default View panel.
  2. Next to Default View for Accounts in this Master, click Edit, and then select the appropriate view. Clients will see the new view within 24 hours.

This process may be used to customize Schwab Alliance views for a sub-account from Schwab Advisor Center.

  1. Go to the Accounts section at Schwab Advisor Center, click Profiles, and select the client's account.
  2. Locate the Account Preferences section, click Edit next to Alliance Web View, and then select the appropriate view. Clients will see the new view within 24 hours.

This process may be used to link to schwaballiance.com from your firm's website.

  1. Work with your firm to create a disclosure page prototype that is compliant with Schwab's linking guidelines.
  2. Once the prototype is complete, select the Request to Link to SchwabAlliance.com form from the forms library on Schwab Advisor Center. Click Select, and then select Open PDF.
  3. Complete all necessary fields.
  4. Print the form and obtain signatures from the Chief Compliance Officer* or a principal of the firm. Send the signed form(s) to your Schwab service team via a Schwab Advisor Center service request.

*If your firm does not have a chief compliance officer, another officer performing a similar function may sign the form.

This process may be used to modify your link to schwaballiance.com. Take these steps before launching the changes.

  1. Prior to implementation, update the link and verify the disclosure page is compliant with Schwab's linking guidelines.
  2. Select the Request to Link to SchwabAlliance.com form from the forms library on Schwab Advisor Center. Click Select and then select Open PDF.
  3. Complete all necessary fields and select Revised Submission under section 1.
  4. Print the form and obtain signatures from the Chief Compliance Officer* or a principal of the firm. Send the signed form(s) to your Schwab service team via a Schwab Advisor Center service request.
  5. Once you have received Schwab's consent and prior to implementing the changes, email techserv.si@schwab.com and include the following information about the firm:
    • Contact name and phone number
    • Master account number
    • Website URL
    • Password, if applicable
    • Prototype information for the changes

*If your firm does not have a chief compliance officer, another officer performing a similar function may sign the form.

Once you have sent the customization request:

  • For logos, allow 45 days to process your logo before it appears on the Schwab Alliance website and communication materials.
  • For links to schwaballiance.com, Schwab replies to the form within 7-10 business days of receipt. Once you have received Schwab's consent, your web team can implement the approved disclosure page to link to the Schwab Alliance website.
  • Schwab does not support any development issues specific to your firm’s website. If you need assistance, we recommend contacting a web developer.

My client has not yet enrolled in Schwab Alliance. How do I enroll them?

Is there a fee for customizing the Schwab Alliance website?
There are no fees for displaying your logo, changing client views, or linking to schwaballiance.com from your website.

May I have a different logo assigned to each firm?
Yes. You can have more than one logo per firm however, there would need to be an approved DBA Tooltip name listed on your Form ADV Tooltip paperwork on file. A master account can't have more than one logo. See the Logo Request Form for more information.

Will my clients see my firm's logo on accounts that are not managed by my firm?
If the client navigates to a page that shows multiple accounts, and one of them is not managed by your firm, then the logo banner will not appear on the website. Instead, a small IA (Independent Advisor) icon will be displayed next to the accounts that your firm is managing. If your client clicks on the icon, your logo and contact information will be displayed.

What are the benefits of linking to schwaballiance.com from my website?
Linking to schwaballiance.com from your firm's website is an easy, inexpensive way for you to connect clients to an extension of your services by:

  • Driving clients to your website to access their tools in one place and creating more exposure to your firm and the services you offer
  • Delivering powerful tools and information through your firm's website with minimal development costs

How do I support clients who want to participate in the market, while keeping the Limited view?Many advisors who enroll clients in a Limited view can satisfy their clients' interest in participating in the market by opening a dedicated client trading account. This allows your clients to make trades without impacting accounts that you manage on their behalf. When trading in the dedicated account, your clients receive the same pricing as their advisors.

Is there anything else I should know about Limited views?

  • Schwab recommends that you proactively discuss Limited view changes with clients.
  • If your client contacts Schwab to request a view change, we will honor your client's request. Once we've provided a Full-Access view, you will no longer be able to change your client's view.
  • Clients with blocked trading access can still make trades by phone through the Schwab Alliance service team.
