Introduction to Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect® Classification

Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect allows you to manage and apply your firm's definitions of asset classes and security types to the investments held in your firm's client accounts. These classifications are used to group securities for holdings, allocation, and performance views.

Asset Class and Security Type classifications are required for each Security. Asset Class and Security Type will be automatically assigned to each new security in the system.

Key features and information of Classifications:

Asset class
  • Asset classes are the highest level of security classification (select five to seven asset classes for the best experience). You can:
    • Manage security asset class definitions
    • Choose unique colors for each asset class
    • Modify the order in which the asset classes appear in views
  • The system uses a predefined list of four asset classes. Create a new asset class or rename an existing asset class. You cannot delete an asset class assigned to a security.
    • Equities
    • Cash
    • Fixed Income
    • Other
Security Type Security Type is the second level of security classification available in the system. The system uses a predefined list of security types. You can:
  • Manage your list of security types and their names
  • Modify the order in which they appear in the system
    • Treat As Cash—All securities that are assigned to Security Types marked Treat As Cash will be available for a cash roll up feature that shows the aggregated value of these holdings in some views.
