How to work with Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect® securities

With Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect, you can customize the security setup process to meet your firm's needs. The system provides default asset class and security types. You can review and approve securities or manage and customize securities as needed by creating and assigning advisor-defined asset classes and security types. These classifications are used to group securities for holdings, allocation, and performance views.

To get started in Portfolio Connect, you will need the following:

User access Users with the Schwab Advisor Center® (SAC) firm security administrator (FSA) Tooltip designation have access to all accounts and data within Portfolio Connect.

Non-FSA users have:
  • The same account data access on Portfolio Connect that they do on SAC
  • No access to firm level data

Note: Some Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect elements are not supported on Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge.
Login Portfolio Connect is only accessible through SAC by going to More > Portfolio Connect > Continue to Portfolio Connect.

Go to Securities > Security Master.

Note: You can make the setup process more efficient by customizing asset classes and security types before reviewing securities.

To bulk approve securities using system defaults
  1. Use filter to isolate Security Type or Asset Class.
  2. Use checkboxes to select items.
  3. Select Approve at the top of the securities grid, click Approve Securities.
To change system defaults
  1. Click Review.
  2. To change the Display Name, click Edit at the bottom left of the Details tab. Type a new display name and click Save.
  3. To change Classifications, click Edit at the bottom left of the Classifications tab. Select Asset Class and Security Type assignments from the dropdown lists and click Save.
To bulk update securities
  1. Use the Filters to isolate Security Type or Asset Class.
  2. Use the checkboxes to select items.
  3. Click Change Classification at the top-left of the security.
  4. Select new Asset Class and/or Security Type from the drop-down, then click Save.

Go to Securities > Security Master.

To change the classification for a single security:

 

  1. Select the menu to the right of the security.
  2. Click View Security Classifications.
  3. Click Edit at the bottom left.
  4. Select Asset Class and Security Type assignments from the dropdown lists and click Save.

To change the classification for multiple securities:

  1. Use filter to isolate specific securities.
  2. Use checkboxes to select items.
  3. Click Change Classifications at the top of the securities grid.
  4. Select Asset Class and/or Security Type assignments from the dropdown lists and click Save.
  1. Go to Securities > Asset Class.
  2. Select Edit in the top-left corner.
  3. Adjust pre-existing or create new asset classes:

  1. Change the existing Display Name by clicking in the display name text field and typing the new name.
  2. Change the assigned color by clicking the color block and selecting a new color.
  3. Adjust display order by using up or down arrows on right.

Create new asset classes:

  1. Select Add New in the top-right corner.
  2. Define the Display Name by clicking in the display name text field and typing the new name.
  3. Change the assigned color by clicking the color block and selecting a new color.
  4. Adjust display order by using up or down arrows on right.
  1. Go to Securities > Security Type.
  2. Select Edit in the top-left corner.
  3. Adjust pre-existing or create new security types:

  1. Change the existing Display Name by clicking in the display name text field and typing the new name.
  2. Select Treat as Cash toggle to treat security type the same as cash.
  3. Adjust display order by using up or down arrows on right.

Create new security type:

  1. Select Add New in the top-right corner.
  2. Define the Display Name by clicking in the display name text field and typing the new name.
  3. Select Treat as Cash toggle to treat security type the same as cash.
  4. Adjust display order by using up or down arrows on right.
