How to work with client reports in Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect®

Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect allows you to prepare reports in bulk as PDF files, which you can then distribute to staff and clients. To get started, see the instructions below.

To get started in Portfolio Connect, you will need the following:

User access

Users with the Schwab Advisor Center® firm security administrator (FSA) designation have access to all accounts and data within Portfolio Connect.

Non-FSA users have:

  • The same account data access on Portfolio Connect that they do on Schwab Advisor Center
  • No access to firm level data

Note: Some Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect elements are not supported on Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge.
LoginPortfolio Connect is only accessible through Schwab Advisor Center by going to More > Portfolio Connect > Continue to Portfolio Connect.

To bulk-generate multiple client reports as PDFs:

  1. Within Portfolio Connect, go to Reports Client Reports.
  2. At the top left, select the billing period from the Date Selector drop-down.
  3. Check the box(es) to the left of the report(s) > scroll to the bottom of the page > Actions > select Generate PDFs.
  4. Review the report(s) then click Generate.

    Note: Re-generating a PDF will override an existing PDF file.

To bulk-download multiple client reports as PDFs:

  1. Within Portfolio Connect, go to Reports > Client Reports.
  2. At the top left, select the billing period from the Date Selector drop-down.
  3. Check the box(es) to the left of the report(s) > scroll to the bottom of the page > Actions > select Download PDFs.
  4. Review the report(s) then click Download.

You can view the request status in the message center on the top of the Client Reports List. If generation of the PDF file is not successful, the system will indicate reports with a status of PDF Failed. You can try to generate the PDF version again for that report.

To generate all PDFs for a selected period:

  1. Within Portfolio Connect, go to Reports > Client Reports.
  2. At the top right, click Generate All PDFs.
    Note: For non-FSA users, the General All PDFs button will be disabled. To replicate the workflow, non-FSAs can use the All column header.
  3. A window will open to allow you to review reports under Reports to Generate. You can also review reports the system was unable to generate under Excluded Reports.
  4. You can exclude a report from the list by clicking the in-row X on the right.
  5. Click Generate to continue.

To download all PDFs for a selected period:

  1. Within Portfolio Connect, go to Reports > Client Reports.
  2. At the top right, click Download All PDFs.
    Note: For non-FSA users, the Download All PDFs button will be disabled. To replicate the workflow, non-FSAs can use the All column header. 
  3. A window will open to allow you to review reports under Reports to Download. You can also review reports the system was unable to download under Excluded Reports.
  4. You can exclude a report from the list by clicking the in-row X on the right.
  5. Click Download to continue.

Use one of these processes to toggle on client reports for an account.

For New accounts not yet reviewed within Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect:

  1. Go to Accounts > Accounts > Review.

For Active accounts already reviewed in Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect:

  1. Go to Accounts > Accounts > click the action menu to the right of the account >  View Account  Profile to view the account details.
  2. Navigate to Performance & Report Settings, click Edit.
  3. Select one of the options in the Produce Quarterly Client Report settings:
    • No— Sets the account to not generate quarterly client reports. 
      Note: Ad hoc reports may still be run on the account if the setting is set to No.
    • Yes—Sets the account to automatically generate quarterly Client Reports at each quarter end. 
  4.  Select a First Report Date. First report date may be set as far back as the first quarter end in which the account has history. 
  5. Click Save.

Use one of these processes to toggle on client reports for a group.

For New groups, go to Accounts > Groups > click the action menu to the right of the group > View Account Group Profile to view the account details.

For Active groups already created in Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect:

  1. Go to Accounts > Groups > click the action menu to the right of the group > View Account Group Profile to view the account details.
  2. Navigate to Performance & Report Settings, click Edit.
  3. Select one of the options in the Produce Quarterly Client Report settings:
    • No—Sets the group to not generate quarterly client reports.  
      Note: Ad hoc reports may still be run on the group if the setting is set to No.
    • Yes—Sets the group to automatically generate quarterly Client Reports at each quarter end. 
  4. Select a First Report Date. First report date may be set as far back as the first quarter end in which the group has history. 
  5. Click Save.
  • If certain reports require changes, make the necessary updates in Portfolio Connect, and re-generate and download the reports to ensure the PDFs include these updates.
  • If items within individual PDF reports (such as footnotes or disclaimers) need customization, Adobe Acrobat® will be required. Download the latest version on the Adobe website.
