How to work with Benchmark Collections in Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect®

With Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect, you can create benchmark collections to provide benchmark data for performance comparison purposes. Benchmark collections allow you to assign multiple benchmarks to one account or groups at once. Once you create a benchmark collection, you can assign it to one or more accounts or groups, giving you the flexibility, you need to support your firm's performance needs.

User access

Users with the Schwab Advisor Center® firm security administrator (FSA) designation have access to all accounts and data within Portfolio Connect. 

Non-FSA users have: 

  • The same account data access on Portfolio Connect that they do on Schwab Advisor Center
  • No access to firm level data

Note: Some Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect elements are not supported on Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge.
LoginPortfolio Connect is only accessible through Schwab Advisor Center by going to More > Portfolio Connect > Continue to Portfolio Connect.

 

  1. Within Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect, go to Benchmarks > Collections, to access the benchmark collection list.
  2. At the top right of the fee schedule list, click + New Collection.
  3. To select Indices to add to the Benchmark Collection.
    1. Click the box next to the desired index.
    2. Search by Name or Symbol, Asset Class or Description.
    3. Click Continue in the bottom right to add the benchmarks.
  4. Enter the Collection name in the Display Name field and add a Description.
  5. Select Save.

Note: Due to space limitations on the Overview and Reporting pages, do not put more than three benchmarks in a collection. If a benchmark collection contains more than three benchmarks, only the first three benchmarks in the collection will be displayed.
 

Use one of these processes to assign an index or pre-existing benchmark collection to an account.

For New accounts that have not yet been reviewed within Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect:

  1. Go to Accounts > Accounts > Review.

For Active accounts that have already been reviewed in Schwab Advisor Portfolio Connect:

  1. Go to Accounts > Accounts and click the action menu to the right of the account and then select View Account Profile to view the account details.
  2. Navigate to Performance & Report Settings, click Edit.
  3. Select one of the options in the Market Index / Benchmark settings:
    • None—Benchmarks are optional and do not have to be used for performance comparisons.
    • Single Benchmark—Use one index for performance comparisons.
    • Collection—Use one of the pre-existing benchmark collections for performance comparisons.
  4. Select an index or benchmark collection from the dropdown.
  5. Click Save.

Use one of these processes to assign an index or pre-existing benchmark collection to a group.

Go to Accounts > Groups > click the action menu to the right of the group and then select View Account Group Profile to view the account details.

  1. Navigate to Performance & Report Settings, click Edit.
  2. Select one of the options in the Market Index / Benchmark settings:
    • None—Benchmarks are optional and do not have to be used for performance comparisons.
    • Single Benchmark—Use one index for performance comparisons.
    • Collection—Use one of the pre-existing benchmark collections for performance comparisons.
  3. Select an index or benchmark collection from the dropdown.
  4. Click Save.
     

Once you have assigned the benchmark collection, you can: 

  • See performance comparisons from account and group overviews
  • See performance comparisons from client reports and meeting books.

Why don't all the benchmarks in the benchmark collection show on reports?
Invoices in the projected status have not reached the end of the billing period required for correct valuation.  These invoices are subject to change as the market changes. You can view the invoice details to understand how the projected value was calculated.
